How do I get my dwarves to collect the snailmen corpses from out in the field? I scroll over them with "k" and then hit "f" so it says "claim" but none of my hauler dwarves seem to want to come get it.īrand new problem. I have a dwarf in a strange mood who has been demanding "body parts" for a while and I am starting to get worried. None of this seems to be getting me any bone. I have also sent my military out to kill some snailmen. I have built a corpse specific stockpile next to my butcher (with tiny animal corpses in it like lizards). I have a butcher shop set up, I have even butchered a couple of my tame animals (a kitten and a horse foal). However, acquiring bone is totally escaping me. On average, with good Marksdwarves you get more *Elf Bone Bolts* out of an Elf's remains than it takes to kill them with Marksdwarf fire. It can take a lot of effort to do this on maps with particularly thick forests, but it is quite worth it. The only way to permanently get them coming after you is to make an agreement to only cut X number of trees in the next year, then clearcutting the map. After which they'll probably try and trade again. and if the Human and Dwarven caravans are leaving with a high enough value of trade goods, the Elves can occasionally be dumb enough to just keep coming anyway.Įven murdering their liaison, making his skull into a totem, and donating that totem to the caravan won't piss them off for more than one, perhaps two attacks on your fortress. You can do this several times before they stop coming. Eventually the Elves and their pack animals will go insane and kill each other, leaving all the delicious trade goods behind for you. You can, for totally hypothetical example, put your trade depot in a room that can be sealed with a Drawbridge, stick the Elves inside, and lock the door. But the sort of game that Dwarf Fortress provides is a lot of fun for me, so it was worth the entry fee. I have to say, most Roguelike *adventure* games I've played have a more straightforward interface. Realize that the "-" and "+" keys on the number pad is what moves the cursor in some menu screens. Only figuring out how to mine took me the most time, so this comes in second.ĥ) Trade with the Depot when caravans come aroundĦ) Query things to assign objects actions or owners/residentsĨ) Build and associate levers with doors, others. Also, stockpiles.ģ) Farm, as well as choosing WHAT to farmĤ) Designate labors, specifically chopping lumber. But even then, it still took me a few days to figure out how it works.Ģ) Construct and use most action Buildings especially the Brewery, Fishery, and Kitchen. It took me forever to figure out how to do this until I found the Wiki thanks to here.
I did it! After unnatural time spent with both the game and the Dwarf Fortress wiki over the course of two weeks, I finally know most of the basics to have me addicted for hours.
